It was amazing how they were attracted to me when I began flowing the Reiki. Some of them just hung around me soaking up whatever energy they could and others came and went. When they all had had their fill of the energy, they trotted off to romp in the pasture. I know that I received just as much as I gave. Can't wait to go back! I think you have to experience working with shelter animals to understand how much Reiki can help them. Reiki helps with the adjustment to shelter life, working through illness and injuries and helping animals peacefully prepare to let go during the last stage of their lives. Last week was a difficult one at the shelter. Three of our cats that were terminally ill had to be euthanized. I was called to the shelter to help these sweet cats peacefully let go at the end of their lives. Working at the shelter can be an emotional roller coaster, and it's not for everyone, but being able to give Reiki to the most deserving animals is a blessing. Ringo accepted the Reiki energy so much, that when I was finished, he looked up at me and had a strand of drool about 10" long hanging from his mouth!! Kind of amusing, but he was a very relaxed horse...I'd never seen a horse drool before! I will be working on a Belgian stallion tomorrow, the owner does logging with his team of Belgians.
